Neurology

Overview

The Department of Neurology is engaged in a wide range of medical treatment, education, and research activities covering all aspects of neurological diseases. In particular, we are actively involved in the treatment and research of stroke, dementia, and Parkinson's disease, which are increasing with the aging of society. We are also engaged in high-level treatment of neuroimmune diseases, motor neuron diseases, and peripheral nerve and muscle diseases, which are intractable neurological diseases, using nerve electrophysiology and neuromuscular biopsy. Our educational activities are well received by students, and we have developed an educational curriculum tailored to the needs of both initial residents and neurology residents. In the field of stroke, we perform a wide range of medical services from acute treatment including tPA therapy to prevention of recurrence in the chronic phase, and we provide optimal treatment for each patient by making full use of the latest neuroimaging diagnosis. Our feature is a wide range of treatments for the patients in each of the above areas of neurology and we promote medical collaboration with neighboring clinics, creating an optimal environment for training to become a neurologist. We train our residents to become neurologists by providing them with the opportunity to pursue their individual subspecialties and to play an active role in every field of neurology.

Graduate School

With recent advances in neuroscience and neuroimaging, we have entered an era in which the molecular pathology of the brain can be grasped at hand and the pathology of the brain can be seen with the naked eye, and this century is said to be the century of the brain. The real value of neuroendoscience is to put brain science into practice in clinical practice from the internal medicine aspect and to make use of it for research purposes. The number of stroke, dementia, Parkinson's disease, and other neurological disorders is increasing as the population ages, and there are many socially important research themes in neurology, such as the development of preventive measures against neurological diseases, the establishment of therapeutic measures, and the development of measures to restore function through the application of regenerative medicine.
The unique feature of our department is that we have experts and conduct research activities in almost all areas of neurological diseases. Graduate students can choose their research topics from any of these areas according to their personal preferences. We sincerely welcome those who are interested in conquering neurological diseases to pursue their research activities at the graduate school.
