Overview

Since establishment of the Institute of Gastroenterology at TWMU in 1965, we have been practicing comprehensive and cutting-edge medical care that transcends the boundaries of medical departments. Our central philosophy is "patient-centered medicine," and our goal is to nurture good clinicians with warm hearts. The Department of Gastroenterology is a surgical division within the Institute of Gastroenterology, and conducts research, education, and medical treatment in cooperation with the departments of Gastroenterology, Endoscopy, Radiology, Pathology, and others. Research in our department is mainly clinical research, with a particular focus on diagnosis and treatment of all gastrointestinal cancers. Since foundation of our Institute by Professor Komei Nakayama, we have been training physicians who are capable of providing holistic, patient-centered care, equipped with clinical diagnostic techniques including surgical pathology as well as surgical techniques, and knowledge and skills in chemotherapy, immunotherapy and other adjuvant therapies. The Division of HBP Surgery, our division has historically been the core team of the Institute of Gastroenterology, TWMU. We are sincerely committed to treating patients with conditions or complications that cannot be treated at other hospitals.
