Aged Health Nursing

Overview

In the postdoctoral program, students aim to explore concepts and develop theories that explain the state of the elderly from a new perspective, considering the changing community and people's awareness of life and values. To this end, students will learn the philosophical foundations and methodologies necessary for conceptual exploration and theory development in nursing practice. In addition, students will learn the basics for becoming independent nursing researchers, such as how to integrate research findings through the accumulation and meta-analysis of findings in their own areas of interest and systematic reviews, various research methods such as intervention research and experimental research to generate evidence, research design and its rigor, and so on. In addition, students aim to develop autonomous researchers with a rich sense of humanity by cultivating interdisciplinarity through academic and international exchange with other human subjects (philosophy, ethics, psychology, education, etc.) for the development of gerontological nursing, as well as unraveling the history of gerontological nursing in this field.

Possible Research Themes

Any of the following research themes are possible, and the research design can be quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methods. Regardless of the research theme, we support the use of research designs that clarify the conceptual and theoretical foundations of nursing practice with the elderly and that aim to elucidate the phenomenon.
- Autonomy of the Elderly: Construction and validation of a model for research on chronic disease management and quality of life of the elderly living with illness, based on the characteristics of the elderly and their regional characteristics, lifestyle culture, and sense of values
- Research related to continuing nursing management for the elderly
- Research on end-of-life care for the elderly, advance care planning, and other forms of decision-making support
- Research on Well-Being and purpose of life of the elderly

Doctoral Dissertation Themes

- Development of a Prediction Scale for the Development of Postoperative Delirium in Patients with Cerebrovascular Disease
- Efforts to implement "better end-of-life care" in special nursing homes for the elderly
- Mutual action research through collaboration between researchers and practitioners
- Development of a Scale for Nurses' Sense of Difficulty in Nursing Care of Elderly People with Dementia
- Development of an "Ease of Living" Scale for Families Living with an Elderly Patient with Aphasia Due to Cerebrovascular Disease
