東京女子医科大学は都心の中心にあり、全国から多数の患者さんが来られます。中でも整形外科は入院４６床、外来２５０名／日を 約２０名のスタッフで運営し、入院待機リストは常時２００名を超える状態です。手術は脊椎・関節・外傷性疾患を中心に年間６００例を 行っている非常に活動的な教室です。しかもそれぞれの分野で我が国でもトップの専門医がきめ細かく後進の指導にもあたっています。 そして常に良好な収支状況をもって病院の運営に貢献しています。特に脊椎手術についてはリウマチ性上位頚椎疾患、血液透析に伴う 破壊性脊椎感染症、各種再建手術など難治性疾患を数多く扱っており、この面では日本を代表する教室の一つと自負しています。 東京女子医科大学の整形外科の特徴のひとつは、教室員の出身大学が国立・私立を問わず一つの大学に偏らず、教室員が全国から 集まっていることです。これらの若い教室員に分けへだてなく、厳しくも温かい平等な教育をし、「世界のどこに出ても通用する 優れた整形外科臨床医」の育成を目指し、努力しています。さらに最高の技術と安全、良質な医療を患者さんに提供し、すべての 患者さんから感謝される医療を目指し、日夜研鑚しております。
